When the object to be framed is 3-dimensional and too deep for a traditional frame moulding to accommodate, we create a “shadow box”. A shadow box, as seen here, is an extra-deep frame moulding (or combination of stacked mouldings) to accommodate the deeper objects. The insides of the frame are lined with either mat board or fabric to coordinate with the overall frame design.
