Shadow Boxes & Plexi Boxes

When the object to be framed is 3-dimensional and too deep for a traditional frame moulding to accommodate, we create a “shadow box” or a “plexi box”. A shadow box, as seen above, is an extra-deep frame moulding (or combination of stacked mouldings) in which the insides of the frame are lined with either mat board or fabric to coordinate with the overall frame design.

Photo Printing and Framing

For many of us, our phone is our camera. Phones these days take some fabulous pictures, and we take our phones everywhere. Have a great photo on your phone that you would love to print and frame? We can print up to 16 x 20, depending on the photo quality. Email it to us at [email protected]. Let us know what size you would like it and when you will be in to design your frame. We'll have printed and waiting for you. Or design it yourself on our Design Studio page and send it to us for a quote.

A plexi box is just that . . . a box made out of clear acrylic (or plexiglass) into which the object is mounted for maximum visibility. In many cases, the mounting of the object presents more of a challenge than the box itself, with the conflicting criteria of being minimally invasive, visually integrated, and yet sufficiently strong to support the weight of the object over time. Framers are not magicians, but we can be very creative! Below we used a plexi box cover to account for the added depth of placing the police cap horizontally in order to display it properly.
